Ubuyobozi bwa Pariki y’Igihugu y’Akagera buvuga ko Intare zoherejwe muri Pariki mu 2015 ari zirindwi, zakomeje kwiyongera, ubu zikaba zigeze kuri 58.
Mu gihe hari hashize imyaka igera kuri 15 nta ntare irangwa muri Pariki y’Akagera, kuko zari zarashizemo kubera impamvu zitandukanye, intare zazanywemo ziturutse muri Afurika y’Epfo, zimaze kongera kororoka.
Mu 2015 hazanywe intare zirindwi muri Pariki y’Akagera, mu 2017 bazana izindi ebyiri bituma umuryango wazo waguka ku buryo bwihuse.
Ubuyobozi bwa Pariki y’Akagera bwatangaje ko intare zari zaracitse burundu muri Pariki y’Akagera mu 2001, nyuma y’imyaka 15 nta ntare irangwa muri iyo Pariki, hazanywe intare mu rwego rwo kuzana impinduka mu bukerarugendo buhakorerwa, kugeza ubu muri 2023, umubare w’izo ntare ukaba ukomeje kwiyongera , aho zimaze kuba 58.
Pariki y’Igihugu y’Akagera ni yo yonyine mu Rwanda ibonekamo inyamaswa nini eshanu (Big Five), kuko ifite intare, ingwe, inzovu, inkura z’umukara, ndetse n’imbogo.
Lions were extirpated from Akagera by 2001. Following a 15-year absence, 7 lions were reintroduced to the park followed by 2 males in 2017 to add genetic diversity to the population.
